The division members actively participate in the education of students from the Ohio State University College of Medicine and residents from the Ohio State University/Mount Carmel Health Residency Combined Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology. This dedication is reflected in our numerous recognitions and teaching awards over the years. Doctors Blumenfeld, Hull, Keder, Schaffir, and Trout have all received the Nicholas Teteris Resident Teaching Award. Doctors Hull, Keder, and Schaffir have been recognized and awarded the CREOG Resident Teaching Award.
They also participate in the College of Medicine MED I and MED II Curriculum by providing lectures as well as facilitating small group sessions and mentoring individual students. Our involvement in the MED III curriculum involves a significant participation in the lecture series and working extensively with students during their OB/GYN third year core rotation. We serve as preceptors for numerous medical students throughout their four years. We also interact with MED IV students as they do elective ambulatory and ward rotations with us.
Division members participate in numerous departmental activities. These include Grand Rounds, didactic sessions, small group sessions, and skills lab in the relatively new teaching center in the basement of the Prior Health Science Library. In addition, we have daily interactions on ward rounds and in the operating room theatre. We oversee the majority of ambulatory OB/GYN clinics in Cramblett Hall, working with both medical students and residents.
Dr. Blumenfeld directs the ambulatory care program. All members of the division staff spend at least one half day of clinic each week at OSU or other specified sites including Children’s Hospital. Specialized clinics are provided in many areas of general obstetrics and gynecology as noted below.

Division faculty members are involved in a weekly gynecological conference which focuses on preoperative assessment and review of patients seen at our ambulatory site as well as surrounding neighborhood clinics that are scheduled for surgery at the Medical Center. We review morbidity and mortality on a regular basis at these conferences as well as at the departmental rotational presentations. In addition to our ambulatory operating room and ward service activities we provide supervision for all consults regarding general obstetrics and gynecology on the ward, in the emergency room, and at various hospitals.
