FacultyDr. Jeffrey Fowler is the John G. Boutselis Professor of Gynecologic Oncology and has been Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology since 1997. Dr. Fowler was elected to a three-year term to serve on the Executive Council of the SGO starting in 2007.  In addition, he is chair of the Data Monitoring Committee and is a member of the Data Safety Monitoring Committee of the GOG. Dr Fowler also served as a Board examiner for general and gynecologic oncology sub-specialty oral exams for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of the Editorial Boards for Gynecologic Oncology and the Journal of Robotic Surgery.  Dr. Fowler serves on the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons. He also serves as the Chair of the membership committee for the GCF.  He is Chief of Staff at the James and the Physician Liaison for the Commission on Cancer. 
 
Dr. Larry Copeland is professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and holds The William Greenville Pace III and Joann Norris Collins-Pace Chair for Cancer Research. Dr. Copeland serves as Past President of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO) and as Vice Chair (Vice President) and Treasurer of the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG). He is also on the Board of Directors for the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (GCF).  In addition, he serves as an examiner and a Director of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Copeland was also recently elected as a fellow to the American Academy for the Advancement of Sciences for his contribution to clinical trials.  He is also an editor for the journals Gynecologic Oncology and Annals of Surgical Oncology and the Textbook of Gynecology. Both Drs. Copeland and Fowler serve on the Ovarian Cancer Committee of the National Comprehensive Cancer Center Network.

Dr. David Cohn is an associate professor and has been a faculty member since 2001. Dr. Cohn serves on the Corpus, Cancer Control and Prevention and Data Safety Monitoring Board Committees of the GOG. He recently participated in an ambassador program for the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation. He is also on the Editorial Board of Gynecologic Oncology. He is active in the SGO and a member of the education and media response team committees. Dr. Cohn was recently named the Donald G. Jones, MD and Patsy P. Jones Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He is also the Fellowship Director for the Gynecologic Oncology Program and the Director of Research.

Dr. David O’Malley is assistant professor and a faculty member since 2005. Dr. O’Malley is a member of the Developmental Therapeutics Committee of the GOG.  He is also a member of the NCCN Ovarian Cancer Outcomes Study and a member of the NCCN Ovarian Cancer Writing Committee.

During 2007, Drs. Copeland, Cohn and Fowler were named in the publication “Best Doctors in America.”   
 
Our nurses are active in the GOG and other national organizations.  Jodi Catanzarite serves on the Quality of Life Committee, and Roberta Cobb serves on the Nursing Committee of the GOG. Ms. Cobb is also on the Education Committee for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology Nursing.  Linda Havenar, our Patient Care Coordinator, is active in the Data Management Committee of the GOG and is instrumental in consulting for data management around the country.  The Columbus Cancer Council, of which we are a part, is one of the national leaders in patient accrual in to GOG clinical trials.

The clinical volume of the Division has grown by over 250% and 100% since 1998 and 2003, respectively. During the past academic year, the Gynecologic Oncology office staff consisted of three gynecologic oncology fellows, nine RN’s, two research data managers, one LPN, one medical assistant, one pharmacy technician, three office managers, five patient care coordinators, one academic secretary, five account coordinators, and two Patient Care Resource Managers. Shannon Thompson, RN is our nursing manager and coordinates and oversees all nursing activities. Beverly Cochran is our administrative assistant in the division and also functions as secretarial office manager. We have instituted a research section for clinical trials and other research efforts (basic science, translational and clinical) which are under the direction of Dr. Cohn. This includes Michele Vaughan, program coordinator, Linda Havenar as Senior GOG Data Manager; three research RN’s and a data manger assistant.  Mr. Daniel Pierce, CPA is our business manager.

We are also proud to announce the recruitment of two new gynecologic oncology faculty. Both finished their gynecologic oncology fellowships in June 2008.  Ritu Salani, M.D., M.B.A. completed her fellowship at the Johns Hopkins in Baltimore Maryland, and her Ob/Gyn residency at Emory University School of Medicine.  Eric Eisenhauer, M.D. completed his fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City, and his residency at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.  Drs. Salani and Eisenhauer join our division in July 2008.
